GREEN PEAS RICE ( pattani saatham)

Today morning immediately after waking my mind begin to think what to prepare for lunch today. Infact daily my first thought after wake up is, what to cook today. Today I have important works outside, so thought of preparing something different and at the same time easy to cook. Immediately this green peas rice only came to my mind. It is best lunch box recipe for school going kids. Kids used to like it very much. This rice can be prepared so quickly.  I love the taste of this rice so much.

Ingredients:

Raw rice                    1 cup
Green peas                1 cup
Green chilies              3
Onion                         1
Ginger garlic paste     1 tsp
Mint leaves                 1/2 handful
Coriander leaves         1/2 handful
Salt
Oil
Ghee

For seasoning

Cloves , cardmon, cinnamon, brinj leaves, fennel seeds ( sombu) as required and as per your taste.

METHOD

Soak the raw rice in water for 20 minutes, drain the water and keep aside. If we use Basmati rice instead of raw rice, we will get better flavour and taste. But since I frequently made the variety rices, pulao, briyani , I use raw rice, on festive occasions only I prefer basmati rice.

Add oil in a Kadai ( you can also use ghee, I prefer to add ghee in the final stage only), put all the Ingredients of seasoning , sauté well, then add ginger garlic paste fry for one minute, then add the onion and sauté till onion become pink. Then add green chillies, then add pothina leaves ( mint leaves),  fry for some time, then add great peas, sauté well, then add rice and sauté till water completely absorbed.

Grease the pressure cooker with ghee and transfer the contents in the Kadai to the pressure cooker. Add two cups of water and salt. Keep in medium flame. After two whistles, put the stove in sim flame  for 5 minutes and then switch of the flame. When you open the pressure cooker, you will get nice aroma and colourful and tasty rice.

Serve hot with onion raitha or potato gravy or paneer butter masala. Today I prepared potato gravy which tasted so nice with peas rice.
