Manathakkali thanni saaru

This is my favourite dish from childhood. In my mom home everyone likes this very much. Very healthy dish for people of all ages. Manathakkali thanni saaru is very famous in my hometown. This gives immediate remedy for mouth ulcers or stomach ulcers or any type of ulcers. It is a very good B complex supplement. These green leaves have many medicinal values. so it is very good if we use this keerai atleast once or twice in a week.

Ingredients:

1 bunch of Manathakkali Keerai (Black Nightshade)
10  Small onions
3 nos Green Chillies
Salt to taste
2 cups of Rice rinsed water
1/4 tsp oil

To make coconut milk:

One full coconut freshly shredded
3/4 tsp Cumin seeds

Method

  • Pluck the leaves and rinse them thoroughly minimum five times to clean the mud.. cut green chillies and onions finely.

  • Heat the oil in a pan to fry the sliced onions and the green chillies. Saute them for few seconds until they turn shiny.

  • Add the kazhani, rice rinsed water ( instead of this, you can add third thinner coconut milk or just water). Allow them to boil.

  • Add the leaves and mix them thoroughly. Allow it too cook well.

  • In the meantime, grind the shredded coconut along with cumin seeds using hot water and extract the milk. Add more hot water to take the second milk. Grind again and pass it through a sieve to filter the second milk which is thinner milk.

  • When green leaves are well cooked. Switch off the flame. Now Add the coconut milk, mix well.

  • Serve with rice. If we use this for medicinal purpose we can completely avoid oil. In boiling water or kazhani, directly add onion, crushed jeers, green chilles, green leaves, when leaves cooked well, switch of the flame and add coconut milk and serve.
