Urundai kulambu

This is handy recipe when I had no vegetables in my home. Very easily can make it and very tasty too.

 Ingredients

Thoor dhal - 1/2 cup
Shallot onion - 10
Tomato - 2
Big onion -2
tamarind - small lemon size 
Red chillies - 4
Chilli powder- 1 tsp
Sambar powder - 2 tsp
Garlic - 10
Coconut - 1
Curry leave , coriander leaves.

For seasoning

Kari vadam

Method

Method of making balls

Soak thoor dhal for two hours. Grind it coarse along with red chillies and fennel seeds. don't add water. To this add finely chopped small onions, salt, turmeric powder, curry, coriander leave, coconut and mix well. Two methods to cook urundai. You can make small balls and steam it in idly pan and then add to the the kulambu or in pan add oil, fry shallot onion, add grinded dhal, turmeric powder, curry coriander leaves, mix it in medium heat, so that it comes without sticking in the pant. At that time, switch off pan and make balls and can add it directly to kulambu.

Method of making kulambu

In a pan add oil, when heated, add curry vadagam ( or mustard seeds, urad dhall, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds), sauté for few seconds till nice aroma comes, then add the onions fry till it becomes pink, then add tomato, sauté well, then add the tamarind extract ( soak in hot water and extract), when it begin to boil add, turmeric powder,chilli powder, sambar powder. All it boil for 5 minutes then add balls one by one. Let dhal balls boil in kulambu for 5 minutes. Then switch off the flame. granish with coriander leaves.


Serve hot with rice, appalam or any raita .
