Bottle gourd chutney

Good Morning friends...

Today's breakfast of our home... Idly with bottlegourd chutney...

I am always interested in trying chutney using vegetables and this is one among them.

Mostly kids wont like bottle gourds when we cook them in kulambu or kootu... So better way to make them eat that vegetable is by making chutney...

Let us go the recipe

Ingredients

Bottle gourd - 1 cup nicely chopped
Garlic pods - 5
Green chillies - 3 to 5
Tamarind - small ghooseberry size soaked in water
Coconut - 1 tbs ( optional)
Oil - 2 tsp ( better use gingelly oil)
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Salt as needed.

Method

In a pan add oil, add cumin seeds, when it splutters add garlic and green chillies, when it is fried well, add bottle gourd, saute well till it is cooked well..... Lastly add coconut scraps and switch off the flame.

When mix is cooled, grind it along with tamarind and salt. Season with mustard seeds and serve.

Please dont grind it to nice paste..... Take care that it is grinded coarsely.... If you grind nice, you wont get good taste. It is very old recipe used to be made in aammi.... So just pulse mixie to get coarse chutney.

It goes well with rice, idly, chutney.
