Being Sunday I bought keerai and thought of making sambar using that keerai. So tried this sambar. Came out so well and everyone in my home liked it very much. Combination of keerai, thoor dhal and channa dhal gives good taste. So please try this and give me the feed back,
Ingredients
Thoor dhal - 1 cup
Channa dhal - 1 cup
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Small onions - 10
Tomatoes - 2
Green chilies - 4
Keerai - 1 cup
Tamarind juice - 1/4 cup
Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
Sambar powder - 2 tsp
Salt as needed
For seasoning
Ghee - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
Red chilies - 5
Curry leaves - few
Hing powder - 1/4 tsp
Method
Cook one cup of thoor dhal in pressure cooker by adding turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp ghee, hing powder, cook one cup of channa dhal in water such that it doesn't become mushy....then in a pan add oil, add onion, tomatoes, green chilies, one by one, sauté everything well, then add nicely chopped keerai, tamarind extract, red chilli powder, sambar powder, salt, when it boiled and raw smell went, add thoor dhal and channa dhal,.... Again when everything mixes well....switch off the flame.... In a pan add ghee, season with mustard seeds, urad dhal, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, red chilles, curry leaves, hing powder and pour it over the sambar and mix well... Serve hot with rice and this sambar tastes so good with chappathi too...
