Vazhapoo Rice

When I went for shopping on Saturday bought three vazhaipoo. Mostly I never buy vazhaipoo since cleaning them is bit lengthy process on working days. So Sunday I cleaned and kept vazhaipoo in airtight box in fridge and  going to use it in this week for two to three days with different combinations. On Monday I prepare this rice. As all of you know, I almost tried and trying all possible combinations for variety rices. So today tried this recipe. Vazhaipoo is so good for health. Nowadays people not using it much. So please try this and give me your feedback.

Ingredients

Rice - 11/2 cups
Thoor dhal - 1/2 cup
Vazhaipoo - 11/2 cup
Onion- 2
Green Chilli - 3
Shredded coconut - 1/4 cup ( optional)
Ginger    2 inch
Lime - 1
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Salt - as required
Mustard  seeds- 1tsp
Urad dal - 2 tsp
Channa dhal - 1 tsp
Dry red chilli- 3
Curry leaves    few
Cumin seeds- 2tsp
Coriander seeds-4 tsp
Oil - As required

Method

Cook rice. 



Cook Thoor dhal. 


Cook nicely chopped vazhaipoo in water along with turmeric powder, don't over cook.

Dry roast cumin seeds and coriander seeds and make powder of it.  


In a Kadai add oil, season with mustard seeds, urad dhal, channa dhal, dry red chillie, curry leaves. 

Then add onion and sauté for few minutes. 


Then add ginger and sauté for few minutes. Now add cooked dhal, shredded coconut, vazhaipoo and mix everything well and sauté well.

 Then add cooked rice, masala powder, salt and mix everything in low flame. 


Lastly add lime juice and mix well and switch off the flame. Serve hot with any vegetable fry or raita.
