Foxtail millet Pongal

Today's diet and healthy recipe.... A perfect South Indian breakfast...

Our main aim of diet is to reduce rice in take and substitute it with any fibrous or healthy grains... Yesterday I used wheat... Today I used foxtail millet in the place of rice ... Millers are rich in fibre and low in calories....Moreover , my opinion any kind of Pongal intake should be in the morning time... It is perfect balance food for breakfast ... That too with sambar...


Ingredients 

For pressure cooking 

Foxtail millet - 1 1/2 cups
Moong dhal - 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Water - 4 cups
Salt as needed

For seasoning

Ghee + oil ( or ghee alone ) - 2 tbs
Crushed pepper corns - 1 tbs
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Ginger , finely chopped - 2 inch piece
Curry leaves - one hand ful

Method

Soak millet and moong dhal for 15 to 30 minutes before cooking for best results. Then pressure cook all the items mentioned under pressure cooking....

Then add oil and ghee in a pan and season with items mentioned under seasoning and mix with Pongal and serve hot with sambar and coconut chutney.
