Avarekalu Kadubu

Today i tried this dish for kannadiga special week in our cooking group... When we announced Kannadiga Special, first name came to my mind is Avarekalu.... In most of their dishes they add this.. In Akki roti, kolukattai, rice , gravy etc etc.... We call this in tamil as upma kolukattai. Came out so well and we liked its taste very much. So please try and give your comments,


Ingredients

Rice Rava - 1 cup
Mochai ( Field beans) - 1/4 cup
Coconut Scraps - 1/4 cup
Pepper - 2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Water - 1 1/4 cups
Ghee and salt as needed.

Method

Pressure cook mochai and keep aside,,. Coarsely crush pepper and cummin seeds and keep read. In a pan add ghee, to this add crushed pepper and cumin seeds, curry leaves....To this as rice rava... Saute well for 10 minutes..... Then add cooked mochai, coconut, salt, mix well... Then add water ( for one cup of rice rava can add 1 1/4 cup of water.... Mix well in medium flame and allow to cook till full water evaporates.... When it is still hot, make balls out of it and steam it in idly pan..... Balls will hold only when you make it while hot...just immerse your hands in cold water and make balls... Serve with coconut chutney...
