Bottle gourd - 1 medium size
Moong dhal(split) - 1/2 cup
Onion - 2
Tomato - 2
Red chilli powder - 1 tbs
Sambar powder - 1/2 tbs
Garam masala - 1 tsp
Curry leaves and coriander leaves for granishing
Salt and oil as needed
To grind
coconut - 1 tbs
Poppy seeds - 1/2 tsp
Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
Garlic ginger paste - 1 tsp
Fried gram - 1 tbs
For seasoning
Mustard seeds - 1tsp
Cumin seed - 1 tsp
Method
Chop bottle gourd into square shape. In a pan add oil, season with ingredients mentioned under seasoning, then add onion, saute well, add tomatoes, bottle gourd pieces, saute well, add red chilli powder, sambar powder, salt, mix well, then add moong dhal and enough water and pressure cook for one whistle. When steam subsides, open the cooker, add grinded paste , garam masala and allow the mix to boil, switch off the flame.
Serve hot with idiyappam, chappathi, idly, hot rice etc
