In kumbakonam when i went to Golu in a neighbourhood mami home, first time i tasted this sweet puttu.... I very much liked its taste...actually she packed it in a cover and sundal in another cover.... Immediately i enquired recipe.... Next day itself i tried it in hme, everyone liked it... From then i begin to make it prepare frequent in my home,,,, so whenever navarathiri comes, this recipe only came to mind first and posting the same first for navarathiri special recipes,,,,
I prepared it today in morning hurry time..... So when you prepare in evening leauirely, can add more ghee, cashew nuts etc and present it in more attractive way.... I never cook specially for my blog or for my fb page, i just post what i prepare daily in middle of my busy schedule... So my snaps may not look professional....
Ingredients
Puttu flour or rice flour - 1 cup
Chana dhal - three tbs
Jaggery - 1/2 cup
Coconut scraps - 1/2 cup
Cardamon powder - 1 tsp
Ghee 2 tsp
Cashewnuts - 5 ( optional, i didnt add)
Salt, water as needed
Method
Today i prepared using idiyappam flour.... You can use any rice flour.... How we smear water and make it into coarse texture is so important...
Just take rice flour in broad pan, add little salt and sprinkle water little by little and mix with flour till you get corase texture, while mixing keep the flour un between fingers and knead coarse so that you can hold the flour but ti should break up if u drop it down...
Then steam it by knoting the flour with cotton cloth....
After cooking it will look like this
Pressure cook channa dhal, filter water and keep it aside
Now add little water to the jaggery and allow to boil, till it becomes thick syrub, may be till two string consistency.... Then add steamed flour, mix well, then add coconut and cooked channa dhal and mix well...add ghee and cardamon powder and switch off the flame....
You can add cashewnuts fried in ghee for decoration.... Since i added channa dhal , i didnt add it.
It will taste soo good... Today i distributed this to my vanmates and all praised its taste so much and it become great hit in our home too....
